on lispの2.9compilationを読んで疑問に思ったのですが

(defun 50th (lst) (nth 49 lst))
(proclaim ’(inline 50th))

これと、defmacro で50thを作ったときの違いは何なのでしょうか？
2.9の最後にinline functionの制約はmacroのそれと基本的には一緒だと書いてあるのですが、
common lispのmacroとinline compileは実質的にどう違うかよくわかりません
