XmlSerializeについて質問です

<?xml version=""1.0""?>
<test>
<item>
<str>aaa</str>
</item>
<item>
<str>bbb</str>
</item>
</test>

上のようなXMLがあったとき、itemタグを読み込むにはどうしたらいいでしょうか？

[XmlRoot("test")]
class Test
{
[XmlArray]
[XmlArrayItem(ElementName="item", IsNullable = true, Type=typeof(TestItem)]
public TestItem[] Items { get; set; }
}

のように記述しても読み込まれないみたいです。よろしくお願いします
