スクリプト内でOSのコマンドを実行するきれいな方法を教えてください

↑を参考に、

require 'shell'
sh = Shell.new
sh.system("ls")

と、やってみましたが、irbでは問題なく実行できたものの、ファイルに保存して
実行すると、

と言われました。
マニュアルのtransactの項目を見ましたが理解できませんでした。
