mingw と gcc 3.4.4 でコンパイルに挑戦しています。
対象はmutellaというコマンドラインのgnutellaサーバントです。
http://mutella.sourceforge.net/

必要なライブラリは別途mingwPORTを用いてインストールしました。
実際にコンパイル作業に入ると ./configure で

checking for socket in libc... no
checking for socket in xnet... no
configure: error: We cannot live without socket() function!

と表示され処理が中断してしまいます。config.logを見ると

configure:7352: checking for socket in libc
configure:7377: g++ -o conftest.exe -g -O2     conftest.cc -lreadline  -lz >&5
conftest.cc:32:26: sys/socket.h: No such file or directory

と表示されsocket.hが見つからないというメッセージが出力されていました。
どのようにしたら、コンパイルを成功させることができるかおわかりの方、
よろしくお願いいたします。
