表の脚注について質問です

\begin{table}[…]
\caption{…}
\begin{minipage}[…]{…}
\begin{tabular}{l|l} \toprule
…\footnotemark[1]
\end{tabular}
\footnotetext[1]{…}
\end{minipage}
\end{table}

とすると、表内には脚注の番号として「1」が表示されるのですが
脚注の番号は「1」ではなく、「a」となってしまいます。
どうすれば「1」となるのでしょうか。
