遅レスですが‥
３行めの Obj as text は string クラスの unicode text みたいです
だから比較する相手の ":" も as unicode text してやると正常に動作します
直接クラスがえしてもいいんですが
まず変数に入れておく例を書いときます

property text_item : (":" as Unicode text)
on open Drop_List
repeat with Obj in Drop_List
if (Obj as text) ends with text_item then
display dialog "folder"
else
display dialog "file"
end if
end repeat
end open

いま AppleScriptStudio でいろいろ遊んでます
チュートリアルの Watson がまともに動いてくれなくて
いきなりつまずきましたが
文字列の比較のところに as Unicode text を
かましてやると動くようになりました
どうも日本語環境特有の問題のようです
