ターミナルでftpを使うときはこう。

%ftp ユーザー名@ftp.hogehoge.com（ftpサーバーの名前）
Passward:（パスワードを入力）
Welcome to hogehoge.com.（みたいなメッセージが出る）
ftp>（ここでコマンドを入力）

例）
ftp>ls（シェルでのlsといっしょ。）
ftp>cd ~/css（これもシェルでのcdといっしょ。）
ftp>put ~/Sites/index.html ./index.html（ローカルのサイトフォルダにあるindex.htmlというファイルをサーバー上にindex.htmlという名前でアップロード）
ftp>delete index.html（サーバー上のindex.htmlというファイルを削除）
ftp>get index.html（サーバー上のindex.htmlというファイルをダウンロード）
ftp>mkdir test（サーバー上にtestというフォルダを作成）
ftp>rm test（サーバー上のtestというフォルダを削除）
ftp>bye（サーバーからログアウト）

多分、このくらい知っておけばそれなりに使えるはず。
