X on x86 overview - Posted on Friday 12th April @ 12:39 pm MST

It's not just an April fools day story anymore.

Speculation that Apple's OS X may be coming to x86 has been polluting
the Internet recently, with Internet tabloid The Inquirer claiming
that ATI and Nvidia are interested in such a move.

"Both companies now have teams actively investigating the port
of OSX to an X86 CPU - and that is upping speculation
that such a beast cannot be too far away," reports the Inquirer.

osOpinion also references reports that "the two companies apparently
have set up teams to investigate porting OS X to an x86 CPU".

"Because ATI and Nvidia are investing research resources in an x86 version
of the OS, this suggests that Apple has given these companies an OS X
x86 pre-introduction in hopes that they will have a product ready
when Apple unveils its OS to the PC-using public."

Apple is rumored to be maintaining an X86 port of OS X internally.
