irsend でエアコンの制御が出来ません。

環境
Hard: Raspberry Pi 3 model B
OS: Raspbian Jessie lite
Linux raspberrypi 4.4.13-v7+ #894 SMP Mon Jun 13 13:13:27 BST 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux

この辺りを参考にして、
・lircインストール
・/etc/lirc/hardware.conf の設定
・/boot/config.txt の設定
・リモコンの送信パルス取得
・/etc/lirc/lircd.conf の設定
までは完了しています。

$ irsend LIST "" ""
irsend: aircon
$ irsend LIST aircon ""
irsend: 0000000000000001 on
irsend: 0000000000000002 off

上記の通り、コマンドの登録はできているようですが、
信号を送ろうとすると、
$ irsend SEND_ONCE aircon on
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: No such file or directory

と表示されます。
色々ググってみましたが、なかなか解決できません。
何か分かる方がいましたら、ご教授願いたいです。
