The Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski
have returned triumphantly from Japan where they gave eight
concerts around the country. Landing in Osaka, the Orchestra
criss-crossed the country by train, ending in Tokyo for a
residency of three concerts at Tokyo Opera City.
The cathedral-like hall, one of Japan's finest, was filled to
capacity for three programmes, each including a Bruckner symphony.
On the final night, the Orchestra and then Skrowaczewski were
recalled to the stage time and time again to receive the acclaim
of the Japanese public, followed by a huge line of autograph seekers!
Skrowaczewski and the Orchestra have made something of a speciality
of Bruckner, and released a full symphony cycle on CD to great
acclaim. This tour was a hugely successful consummation of these
interpretations, and the partnership will return to Japan in the
2005/06 season.
