Herreweghe's recordings almost always strike me as the most refined,
the most contemplative, the most sonorous. However, Herreweghe too often
seems to lack the other side of Bach: the dramatic, earthy Bach who would
sneak young ladies into the organ loft with him and who wrote the Peasant
Cantata.
